Who We Are

With Jennifer Roque’s great computer talents and hard work our giveaway now has a Power Point presentation!  (We would love to give this presentation anywhere there is an interest and has the capabilities to use Power Point.)  Mel, Jen and I had the privilege of being asked to go to Naples, Florida this year and give this presentation at the atrium of a large indoor flea market.  Though Naples seems to be a very affluent area, nearby Fort Meyers appears to have much need for such a ministry, and we pray that someone who heard the presentation will feel the Holy Spirit tugging at their heart strings to begin one in the area.  We had a couple from Georgia show much interest, and they took information along with one of our business cards to take back home to their pastor.  We pray for growth from that as well.

We held our annual Thanksgiving dinner at the Thayer Fire House with approximately 300 traditional Thanksgiving dinners being served.  One hundred pounds of turkey, forty pounds of ham and all the trimmings were enjoyed by all.

Santa’s Workshop was held at Rock House on Saturday, Dec. 13.  Sixty-nine children were able to pick out a gift for their mom and dad and have it wrapped.  We began this ministry around three years ago.  We realized that if families were struggling and were unable to get anything for their children for Christmas, it only made sense that the kids would not be able to shop for their parents.  Knowing it is important for kids to be able to give also, we began collecting dollar store type items for men and women throughout the year and then set a day for the kids to “go shopping”.  It is so humbling to see their faces and hear some of their stories!  While the kids were shopping their moms and dads enjoyed coffee, hot cocoa, cookies and fellowship in the other room.

We held our Annual Christmas Toy Giveaway at the Rensselaer National Guard Armory on Thursday, Dec. 17.  Three Hundred and seventy-two children were signed in, and each received nine toys along with stocking stuffers.  Many items such as bikes, a keyboard, huge stuffed animals, leather coats, and ice skates were donated for which we held a drawing.  At the close of the giveaway we put out all the remaining toys and stuffed animals on the tables and allowed the parents to take as much as they needed.  I’m sure many children woke up Christmas morning to many a toy under their tree!

We finished off the busy year of 2009 with a New Year’s Eve Sing!  We began at 8:00 p.m. CST, husband and wife duo Rex and Ruth Ann Parks were in concert along with several other local favorites.  We also had open mic available for those who would like to share the gift of music God has given to them.  We also set up a game area in our office area for those interested in a challenging game of Uno, Sequence, Rummikub or Dominoes.  There was a a carry in dinner to provide a great “Rock House Buffet”.   We had a great time singing and praying in the new year with our brothers and sisters.

We wait with eager anticipation to see what God has in store for us to see and do in 2010!

It doesn’t seem possible, but we are midway through our 8th year of ministry here at Rock House II.  Reflecting back on 2009 it has been a very busy and rewarding year.  We have been so blessed.

In 2009 3 new families joined, and 2 weddings were held. We hosted 3 weeks of revival services this year.  Our  spring revivals included one with Bro. Pat Haskins as evangelist, and Evangelist Sister Carol Shepherd from Alma, Michigan doing the other.  Our fall revival was also led by Sister Carol.

We once again participated in DeMotte’s Town & Country Days – our homemade chicken and dumplings were a great success.  (110# of chicken was used)

Our weekly services consists of Wednesday evening prayer and Bible study, Thursday afternoon ladies Bible study, Sunday morning Sunday School & Praise and Worship services, and Celebrate Recovery sessions being held Sunday afternoons.

Celebrate Recovery has seen steady growth.  This year we have gone from 4 to sometimes as many as 10 present to turn their hurts, hang ups and habits over to the Lord.

Our giveaways continued to see steady growth at our off sites located in Rensslaer, Thayer and Lowell.  Due to the declining economy we felt it necessary to also begin holding them three days each week at Rock House as well, beginning this fall.  There has been approximately 1000 individuals sign in to  receive clothes, household items, food and paper products just over this past 3 months.  Salvation has been explained with an opportunity to pray the prayer of salvation at each giveaway.  Many individuals have prayed and asked Jesus to    be their Lord and Savior!  Praise His name!!
