What is a giveaway?

   Over the past six years Rock House II Ministries has been the proud sponsor of the Quad County Giveaway. This giveaway reaches out to over two hundred families monthly providing free clothes, small appliances, toys and other miscellaneous household items. There is no limit on the amount of items our "shoppers" can take. Each family is given a 30 gal. bag to fill with their "treasures".   All of these items are donated by area residents. Our volunteers sort, fold and arrange them in "rummage sale" fashion the days of our giveaways. In the past we held three giveaways each month ... the first Thursday in Lowell, IN, the second Thursday in Thayer, IN and the third Thursday in Rensselaer, IN.
     The giveaway expanded in 2006 to include a paper pantry to offer items that cannot be purchased with food stamps. These items include such things as laundry soap, dish soap, toilet tissue, and bath soap. These items are purchased largely by the Pastors, our volunteers, and by the donations received through our shoppers. These items are limited due to the costs. We ask our shoppers to sign a card listing the items they have need of, and one of our volunteers fills this order. We must limit our shoppers to signing up for this pantry at one sight only monthly.
     In 2007, we were blessed once again with another expansion.   A food pantry was made available at each location. We receive non-perishable food items from HDC (Humanitarian Distribution Center) in Francisville, IN once a month. We then sort these items, dividing them between our giveaways. We have our shoppers sign in for these items also, so they receive only what they want and will use.
